Shri Maharaj’s Krupa on Aggressive Cow in Adhyay 10

Shri Gajanan Maharaj Adhayay

Suklal Agrawal from Balapur had a cow. The cow was very aggressive and she used to cause lot of trouble to children and adults in Balapur. She used to enter shops on her free will and eat grains and anything she wanted. She used to eat as much as possible and cause destruction of the remaining food items.  It was very difficult to tie her to one place and she used to break the rope without any efforts. She was like a Lioness and people in Balapur has got fed up of her nuisance.

People in Balapur were so much harassed, that they asked Suklal to give her to a butcher or kill her with a bullet. Suklal told the villagers to do whatever they wanted. One Pathan tried to kill her with a gun.  However somehow she came to know about this and she thrashed Pathan with her horns. Suklal had also left her in another village however she came right back to Balapur.

The villagers then thought there was only one solution.  Maharaj had tamed a horse once, belonging to Govindboua and maybe he can also tame this Cow. They said to Suklal to take her to Shegaon and give her to Maharaj to solve their troubles.  Then ten to twelve people caught the cow after lot of efforts and tied her in chains and took her to Shegaon on a bullock cart.

As Shegaon starting coming near and near, a strange thing happened and the Cow’s behavior started to change. As soon as the Cow came in front of Maharaj, she became completely calm. As soon as she saw Maharaj she started crying.  Maharaj shouted at everyone and said: “What is this stupidity going on!.  It is not good to give such pains to a cow. You have tied her four feet and neck in chains.  This type of chains are suitable for a Lioness and not a cow. Cow is Sakshat Parmeshwar and it is not good to do such things to her. Fools!  She is everyone’s mother. Please free her immediately.”

Even after Maharaj spoke, nobody was ready to free her. Then Maharaj himself freed the cow with his own blessed hands. As soon as she was free, she came down from the bullock cart and kneeled down in front of Maharaj for vandan. Then after vandan, she did three pradakshina around Maharaj. Then she started licking Maharaj’s blessed feet.  Everyone was just watching this miracle as it happened right in front of their eyes. It is difficult to describe Maharaj’s prabhav.

Maharaj then said to the cow: “From now on, please do not trouble anybody. Please stay in this ashram and do not go anywhere else”.

After this big miracle everyone did Maharaj’s Jai Jai Kaar three times. Balapur’s people went back to Balapur and the Cow stayed back in Shegaon.  From that day onwards she did not require a rope to tied to and she became completely calm.  Even till date her grand children (grand calfs) still stay in Shegoan.

About Maharaj’s Padukas at Mundagaon

This is from Adhyay 16.
Shree Gajanan Maharaj had a bhakt in Mundgaon named Pundlik Bhokre. There was a lady in Mundgaon named Shrimati Bhagabai who tried to divert Pundlik’s attention away from Maharaj.
Thus Pundlik Bhokre became restless and Shree Gajanan Maharaj came in his dreams and told him to worship Maharaj’s Padukas. Pundlik did not have Maharaj’s Padukas and was thinking on where he should get the Padukas from?
Meanwhile Shree Gajanan Maharaj had already sent Padukas along with Zamsingh to be given to Pundlik. The next day morning Pundlik was waiting on Mundgaon’s border waiting to see if someone was coming from Shegaon. When Pundlik saw Zamsingh, he asked Zamsingh whether Maharaj had given him anything for Pundlik. Zamsingh was surprised and Pundlik told him about the ‘Distant’ in the night. Accordingly the Padukas of Maharaj reached Pundlik at Mundgaon at the hands of Zamsingh.
Pundlik then performed Puja of Maharaj’s Padukas with utter devotion.

About Gajanan Maharaj

gajanan_MaharajThe early life history of Gajanan Maharaj is obscure, his birthdate being unknown. Biruduraju Ramaraju has tried to establish in his collection of books called “Andhra Yogulu” that he was a Telugu Brahmin. Some speculate that he might have in fact hailed from Sajjanghad, (which was the place where Sant Samartha Ramdas had lived). Das Ganu Maharaj has written a 21 chapter biography, “Shri Gajanan Vijay,” of Gajanan Maharaj in Marathi. Contemporaries of Gajanan Maharaj identified him by several names like Gin Gine Buwa, Ganpat Buwa, and Awaliya Baba. However, it is amply proved that as a handsome, tall lad of 18 years old he arrived at Akkalkot to meet Shri Swami Samarth. It is said that on seeing him Swami Samarth was overjoyed and made him sit in his lap and caressed him lovingly; people around Samarth who watched this scene sait to Swami that the boy was in his teens and not a child. Thereafter it is said that Swami asked the boy to go to holy place of Kapildhara near Nashik and perform austerities. As per the instructions, the boy performed severe austerities at Kapildhara and attained Atmadnyana and became a Supreme Yogi. Just before his Samadhi, Swami Samarth asked him to get himself ‘polished’ from Dev Mamaledar (yet another disciple of Swami Samarth and a realized soul) at Nashik. The boy did exactly the same and got blessings of Dev Mamaledar. Later he was asked to keep walking and the place where he stoped would become his Karmabhoomi and the name given by people around him would be his name. This is what happened exactly. After Swami Samarth’s samadhi, the boy appeared at Shegaon and as they say the rest is history. The evidence to this story comes from an old man who had seen the boy at Akkalkot with Swami Samarth and had come to Shegaon along with his son who was working in post office and was transferred to Shegaon. Maharaj accepting a human body is a mere pastime (Leela) as he is Brahmadnyani; that is why thousands of the devotees flock to Shegaon for his blessings. How he functions and transforms people from vile, wicked ways to great devotees is really unknown. None in his earthly days ever saw him chanting any special mantra holding japamala etc. But he is a supreme saint, whose blessings everyone must have. According to a legend, a money lender named Bankat Lal Agarwal first saw Gajanan Maharaj in a “superconscious state” on February 23, 1878 on a street. Sensing him to be a saint, Bankat took him home and asked him to stay with him. Legends say that in his lifetime, he performed many miracles such as giving a fresh lease on life to one Janrao Deshmukh, lighting the clay-pipe without fire, filling a dry well with water, drawing sugar cane juice by twisting canes with his hands, and curing leprosy of a woman. He took samadhi on 8 September 1910.
